Those of you that watch the TV program "Heroes" recognize that expression.
It is an alternate version of the premise of that show. The tagline for
that show is "Save the cheerleader, save the world". As ludicrous as it
sounds, the show is actually somewat interesting as it portrays the ways in
which disparate character's lives are providentially intertwined. This
morning, in the process of responding to my son's legitimate exasperation
over a blogger's over-the-top narcissistic attitude, I stumbled upon some
actual worthwhile thoughts regarding a potential use and idea concerning all
of our blogging. I have had the same reaction to this person's shameless
boasting, but also know that God sent His Son to die for him, and wants
him to be saved. Imagine the potential if everyone were praying for him,
and focused on seeing him saved, witnessing to him, and then multiply it by
all the Christians that frequent blogs. Anyway, here is what I wrote back
to my son, and I can say that I beieve it is worth putting in my blog. It
is probably one of the best ideas, though I am sure others have thought of
it as well, that I have had in years.
Well, there is no question that he is blatant about pointing out his
financial success, and it is almost embarrassing that he does it so
seemingly without a clue that he is doing it. However, it is precisely this
aspect of him that makes me feel sorry for him, and in a wierd way endears
him to my heart. Apart from the glaring and fatal omission of God in his
success and his life, one has to admire a few things. First, he did not
do it by having it handed to him, but worked hard and obviously is a gifted
person. Secondly, there is, in addition to his arrogance, an indication
that he doesn't take himself all too seriously. I find it fascinating that
the technology provides a way of affecting people's lives (and being
affected by their lives) without having ever met them. In point of fact, I
have witnessed to him, and he has responded to my posts. I find myself
praying for him and to find a way to have a true dialog about his soul. For
he will not bring any of his condos, cars, financial statements with him.
His persistence in reminding his "audience" of his financial prowess is
daily evidence of the emptiness within, and the fact that he needs
redemption.
In fact, maybe we Grovemans should make Gary Fong an experiment and
project. Now that I am thinking about it, it sounds like a real adventure
and challenge. Why don't we as a family start praying for him and his
family? We can post to his blog in a humble and purposeful way. Afterall,
his blog provides a fairly clear window into the happenings in his life,
and though he wouldn't respond to each and all of us, any one of us might
be successful in reaching him. One could plant, another water, and
another harvest.
In fact, we could be on the verge of a revolution in evangelism and a new
ministry. Maybe there is a better name we can think of, but until then we
can call it "blog evangelism". Instead of subscribing to all Christian
friend's blogs, we each and all find targets and all subscribe to their
blogs, and then pray for them, post to them, and watch the Lord work.
Thank about it. What if we did it on a consistent basis? What if the whole
CLC started doing it? God would save people. If I read something on Gary's
blog that I thought one of you would be better at addressing, I could alert
you, and let you know to read that day's post. This idea has potential. I
want each of you to pray about it, and tell me what you think. Also, it
would provide a subject for our family times and we could pray for our
"targets". Come to think of it, if each caregroup started doing this, it
would bring a MUCH NEEDED invigoration to caregroups, for I believe that
this kind of outreach is what is the missing ingredient in living, vibrant
gatherings of believers - to see the Lord at work in our midst reaching
people.

anyway, thanks for the subscription a while back. hope i don't disappoint :)
I read some of your responses to Gary's blog and thanks for the good comments. I too am praying for Gary and Melissa. They are so very lost and the fact that Gary is very independent-minded and brilliant only hinders his ability to bow down before the one and only true God. This country has also been devastated by the "What is Truth" argument, but that is not new, I guess. After all, isn't that what Pontius Pilate asked Jesus?
Thanks again for your comments. "Lord Jesus, I pray that you would continue to sway the hearts and minds of Gary and Melissa. And during this time of the funeral of their friend, I pray that you would work mightily in their hearts. In Jesus' name, amen!"
You say that "the soldiers do NOT want to abandon their mission". What soldier ever wants to "abandon" their mission? No one's talking about "abandoning the mission". That's pure rhetoric. I'm talking about changing tactics and reevaluating the end goal. In war time, a general would be foolish not to consider changing their tactics when it's obvious the current plans are not working. Besides, did you ever wonder why Republican candidate Ron Paul has received the most donations from individual soldiers when he's the only one advocating a pull out from Iraq?
You say "our being there is key in the war on terror." Did you ever ask yourself why they are attacking us in the first place? Yes, I'm very familiar with the party line that they hate us because they hate our freedom, they want to bring oppression, etc etc. Um... really? Think logically about that for a moment. How about they hate us because our military has been on their holy land for the past few decades and we have been meddling in their internal affairs and we won't leave? If someone did that to my country, I'd be on the streets fighting them as oppressors.
You say "Or did you forget that there are people intent on wiping out Americans and the nation Israel." Sheesh. I'm not a peacenik with my head in the sand, all right? If someone wants to destroy my country, has the ability to do severe damage, and has taken active steps to doing so, I'm all for waging and all out defensive war and beating them so badly they'll never think of doing so again. But for crying out loud, let's make sure we're doing it the right way, going after the right people, and not getting the whole world mad at us in the process!
You did not even mention what would happen when and if we just decided we have had enough, and we just yield to the alarmist, negative, left-wing, liberal fears and principles.Rhetoric, my friend. Let's talk facts and logic.
Do we need Islamists blowing themselves up in our streets and restaurants? That's why we should defend our borders instead of going over to Iraq--which had nothing to do with 9/11--and stirring up a hornets nest so that we end up with EVEN MORE normal civilians getting so mad at us they want to blow us up.
You, my friend, have bought into a philosophy, one that sees evil in authority, and a conspiracy behind every government offic. Ouch. That kinda hurts. Be careful where you throw your words, especially if they are unfounded. I do not see evil in authority. And I do not believe 9/11 was a big whole conspiracy. But I do believe the majority of our government is incompetent. That's why I was a Republican in the first place. I'm for small government, and I believe we the citizens are far better at taking care of our own lives instead of a nanny state.

Junshien
Hey, can I be in too? :)
speaking of war strategy...since we are in such a spiritual battle and everyone knows that in order to have victory, you must have a plan...I'm all for getting intentional. What's the goal? To win people to Christ. Specifially...your target. This is something that I have seen great success in. It's called "prayer triplets". You get three people together every day for 30 days. Everyone has 3 names of people they want to "win" Then, pick a time, 30 minutes works well but goes really fast with 9 names...eveyone takes turns praying and believeing and speaking into that person's circumstances. Ask the Holy Spirit to
1. Affect their circumstances directly
2. Amplify their emtyness so that they are led to search for truth.
3. Bring divine encounters with people who have LIFE.
4 Wake them in the night with thoughts and dreams of Him.
5. anything else that targets them with the Love of Christ.
Then after 30 days, go and speak to that person directly, or have lunch or whatever. The Holy Spirit will open a door for your words to hit their mark. You may not see immediate results, but just know that your General is working. :)
Anyway, that's just a suggestion and a picture of what it looks like to be intentional in winning the lost. Maybe you can say a certain time of the day and anyone who wants to join in the blog evangelism can set aside time to pray for targets. God loves it when we take his commission seriously.
Don't worry about people finding out they are a target. What are they being targeted for? Love? Redemption? Reconciliation? Adoption into a glorious Kingdom? Freedom from guilt, shame, sickness, oppression, depression and poverty of all kinds? sheesh! Who doesn't want to be that kind of target? When we ask God to release the hounds of heaven to relentlessly persue them with mercy and grace....man, that's a good thing!
Imagine how many people Gary could reach for Jesus. Get him, Lord! Meet him on the road to Damascus!
ha ha. Lots of love, Shawna
